The project
An energy-efficient, low-cost data center.
The Issues
The University of Nantes wanted to establish a data center capable of hosting its own resources as well as infrastructure for third parties (computing center, colocation hosting). High energy efficiency was a key selection criterion. The project had to be implemented within a very short timeframe while staying within a very tight budget. Flexibility was a key factor for the university, which wanted to be able to gradually increase the capacity of its data center and adapt it to the needs of its future clients.
The Module-it Solution
To meet the needs of the University of Nantes, Module-it opted for the design and turnkey implementation of a scalable data center ranging from 100 kW to 300 kW. To accommodate varying density requirements, four modules were installed. The implementation of an indirect free-cooling solution significantly increases energy efficiency. As a global integrator, Module-it took responsibility for the entire project, ranging from the renovation of the premises to the internal layout of the data center, including monitoring, supervision, and the implementation of technical infrastructure.
The strength of the solution
With this data center, which features enhanced security, the University of Nantes is now able to host its own management infrastructure, numerous HPC (High Performance Computing) projects, and equipment from third-party entities. Thanks to its fully modular design, the data center can triple its capacity without any downtime or technical modifications.
